The Value of Community Ensembles

This weekend, I had the privilege of performing with the Asheville Symphony Chorus at Arden Presbyterian for our celebration of Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday.

It was an absolute joy to sing with this outstanding group of singers!

I'm continually learning more about my voice, proper vocal technique, sight reading (even piano music!), musical interpretation, all while getting to sing these amazing pieces. Our next performance is on December 4th at First Presbyterian here in Asheville, as we'll be doing our annual Handel's Messiah singalong.

Why did I join the chorus? It's a great way to expand my skill set and the diversity of my musical experiences through a professional community organization. It's also super fun! I get to sing music that I otherwise would have no exposure to.

The community support for these concerts is incredible and humbling. We had a massive turnout at this last concert, and the music was truly transcendent.

If you have an opportunity to expand on what you're working on in your piano lessons or guitar lessons by joining an ensemble, I highly recommend you do it. I can't stress the value of this enough! :) The sheer number of groups in this town and the quality of local talent, especially considering how small Asheville is, never ceases to amaze me.
